Three Guatemalan prisoners are on the loose after escaping from the Belize Central Prison this morning.

Details are still forthcoming but reports are that 31-year-old  Ronnie Lopez, 23-year-old Abraham De Paz, and 41-year-old Encarnaracion De Paz escaped around 6 a.m. The men had been in prison for illegal entry into Belize as well as firearm-related offenses.

Friends of Conservation and Development, the NGO that co-manages the Chihquibul Forest Reserve found the trio hunting in the Chiquibul National Park in January. FCD found them with a 20-gauge shotgun, and a combination of 6 live rounds of 20 gauge ammunition and 1 live round of 16 gauge ammunition.

The men were also in possession of a gibnut, and a horse. FCD handed them over to the San Ignacio Police and they were arrested, charged and remanded. The Belize Police Department is expected to have more details on their escape at its scheduled press briefing tomorrow.
