Reporter: Benjamin Flowers, News Staff,

Police are investigating a shooting incident that happened in Toledo last night where a woman was shot to the lower body.

Police say that Renita Jackson, 23, of Punta Gorda Town, was sitting at the corner of Far West Street and Church Street along with her common-law husband and another person when two men with rags covering their faces approached.

The men fired several shots, one of them hitting Jackson in the right hip and causing an exit wound to the inner right leg.

Police added that she was treated at the Punta Gorda Hospital and is in stable condition. Given the early stages of the investigation, the department could not say who was the intended target of the shooting.

Police say they are investigating and may have an update to this story at it’s scheduled media briefing on Monday.
