A three-year-old girl and her mother were shot early this morning while they slept.

Police say that Alva Moody, 23, of Gill Street, and her daughter were in bed along with her common-law husband Roy Bennett when someone walked into their yard and opened fire on their house.

Sometime around 2 a.m. they went to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where Moody was treated for gunshot wounds to the buttocks, right lower thigh and a graze to the abdomen; while her daughter had a gunshot wound to the right temple.

Moody is in a stable condition while her daughter is listed as critical. Police say they are investigating the incident. More on this story as it develops.
