Surveillance camera footage of a foiled armed robbery at CP Gas on the Phillip Goldson Highway led Police straight to two Belize City men who have since been arrested and charged. On Wednesday, authorities reported that they had Kyle Mariano Perez, 19 and Tyrique Leon Swaso, 20, in custody and had charged both for the crimes of attempted robbery and wounding. Swaso was additionally charged for damage to property, which occurred when he kicked open the door to the gas station.

The incident occurred at 8:30am on Monday at the establishment located at Mile 1.5 on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Surveillance footage shows clearly when two unmasked individuals enter the building, one of them with a firearm. One of them started beating on the manager of the family owned business who fought back. When multiple punches to the victim’s head did not seem to be enough to frighten or subdue him, the individual who was armed with the pistol jumped in and beat him in his head with the gun.

The manager still eventually managed to overpower one of his attackers, and both of them were forced to retreat without firing a shot, but not before one of them pushed down the elderly woman who is the proprietor of the establishment.

In another armed robbery at a gas station which was foiled, on Friday, July 27th three gunmen who were also captured on surveillance cameras attempted to jack the Coral Grove Gas Station which is also located at mile one and a half on the PGH.

Footage at around 11:04pm showed three men with shirts covering their faces running up to the establishment, where they grabbed an on-duty security guard and forced him to the front entrance of the convenience store.

The men are reported to have ordered the guard to open the door. He, however, did not have a key to the business and following a brief standoff through glass with an attendant inside the store who refused to open the door, the thieves were forced to retreat. Those unidentified men remain at large.
