THE REPORTER: News Staff, –

One individual who has been described as having a criminal past is currently being sought by authorities after his identity was traced to a heavily tinted blue Ford Explorer vehicle which was left abandoned in the White Ridge area off the Coastal Road last week Sunday by six or seven heavily armed men.

Concerns mounted just after midday on November 11th, when authorities received a call for backup from two Police Officers from Dangriga who requested the assistance of the SPU and the BSAG to be dispatched near the White Ridge area where a group of heavily armed men had just escaped into the bushes.

The men, described as being of dark complexion and dressed in full black clothing, were never located but near the area where they disappeared authorities retrieved the vehicle and an M4 Carbine assault rifle along with 47 live rounds of ammunition.

The two officers later reported that while they were on regular patrol northbound from Dangriga, they came upon the vehicle which had no license plates and was traveling in the same direction. The officers said that after trailing the vehicle for a couple of minutes, it picked up speed and drove into a feeder road in an attempt to outrun the mobile.

The officers followed, and saw the armed men as they exited the vehicle and ran off into the bushes. The officers were clearly outmanned and outgunned and decided not to pursue the men until backup had arrived.

While it is not known what the individuals were doing in that vicinity, just two weeks ago a joint operation between Police, BDF and Coast Guard managed to foil a major cocaine operation in the same area. During that operation, an abandoned SUV was found loaded with over a thousand pounds of cocaine.
