REPORTER: Marion Ali, Jan. 18th.

The staff of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has received equipment worth $20,000 and training for disaster preparedness from the Belize Red Cross Society.

The equipment includes a drone, a portable open street map server and open data kit, all used to collect data in disaster relief operations.

The one-week training for NEMO personnel focused in operating photographic drones, satellite imagery and Global Positioning Systems. It was facilitated by the American Red Cross. Both training and donation are part of a project to assist villages throughout the Belize District, funded through the US Embassy.
