Friday, April 5th. - By Michelle Sutherland -

Heightened activity among gang members operating within the Faber’s Road area of Belize City this week has left two families grieving the loss of their loved ones, while three more persons are hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) recovering from stab wounds and gunshot injuries.

While authorities confirmed that the incidents are not related, they believe that the stabbing incident and two shooting incidents which occurred hours apart on April 3rd Faber’s Road are related to gang activity in that area.

The first murder, a fatal stabbing occurred around 9:00 a.m. and resulted in the death of Marcus Frazier, 24, who was stabbed to the left side of his chest and died moments after being rushed to the KHMH. Also injured was Kyle Saunders, 22, who sustained multiple stab wounds to his abdomen and back.

Reports from Police indicate that prior to the stabbing, the deceased and Saunders were at a Chinese shop on Faber’s Road Extension when they got involved in an argument with another male person who had just arrived on a motorbike. Police say that the individual was in the process of leaving the store when he was attacked by Frazer and Saunders with a pint bottle and a cement block. The individual reportedly pulled out a knife and allegedly stabbed both of his attackers before escaping from the scene.

Investigators noted that based on details gathered they believe that the individual was acting in self-defense. However, they have forwarded the details of the case to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution for instructions and are seeking one male person for questioning.

The second incident which involved a shooting at a residence on Rio Grande Crescent has left Emory Williams, 15, hospitalized at the KHMH recovering from gunshot wounds to his arm. The minor was at home around 5:20 p.m. when he heard someone calling to him from outside and when he exited his home a gunman was waiting on the veranda and fired as many as four gunshots at him.
Police say that they are seeking one male person to assist them in their investigations. Williams is hospitalized in a stable condition.

Around 8:00 p.m. Police were again summoned to the KHMH to investigate a double shooting which left Eugene Wallace, 40, dead and Zachary Knox, 22, with multiple gunshot injuries.

Prior to the shooting, both men were reportedly socializing at the rear of a mechanic shop located on Faber’s Road when two men rode up on a motorcycle. One of the men disembarked from the motorcycle and ran towards the back of the yard where he took out a gun and fired multiple gunshots at them.

Police revealed that they believe that the shooting was triggered by a drug transaction gone wrong.

The Reporter has confirmed that due to the three separate incidents, tensions in that area are high and according to ASP Alejandro Cowo, the Gang Suppression Unit and additional Police units have been stationed at the Faber’s Road Substation to quell any type of retaliation.

According to Cowo, the incidents “are not related but are the result of the rivalry that exists between the two groups in that area. As I mentioned, we suspect that the shooting of Mr. Williams is drug-related, while the shooting death of Wallace is also suspected to be drug-related. But as I mentioned again, it is concerning the same elements that operate in that area and that also includes the double stabbing.”
