ICJ Referendum In Legal Limbo – Appeals Court Let Injunction Stand

ICJ Referendum In Legal Limbo – Appeals Court Let Injunction Stand

Monday, April 8th. - REPORTER NEWS STAFF -

The Court of Appeal has reached a majority decision at this time. The Court has decided the injunction will stand, and the appellants have been advised that they can take their appeal to the Caribbean Court of Justice.

The Appeals Court has decided it lacks the jurisdiction to deal with the matter.

A technical legal statute written in Belize Law states that an appeal can only be heard in the Court Of Appeals after 21 days has lapsed, based on the date of the initial ruling, ( which was Wednesday, April 3 ) when the CJ made the injunction.

Therefore, the Court Of Appeals did not uphold the Injunction that the Chief Justice ordered, but they have decided that they cannot rule on the appeal because of that legal statute, therefore the injunction stands.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow will hold a news conference later this evening and THE REPORTER News Team will have full coverage and video of these resent developments.
