Fatal Traffic Accident On Placencia Road – American Died

The Reporter has confirmed that Luis Felipe Flores, 21 year old construction worker from Placencia, is still in Police custody after a fatal traffic accident on Friday evening on the Placencia Road.

Police have detained a construction worker from Placencia following a road traffic accident on Friday evening which claimed the life of an American national, also a resident of Placencia.

Around 6:30pm Police were called out to an area between Miles 22 and 23 on the Placencia Road where they saw the body of an elderly man later identified as Robert Clark McNeely, 71, from the Crimson Park area of Placencia. McNeely had suffered severe injuries to the head and body and died on the spot.

Police also found a badly damaged white Toyota Hilux nearly, along with Luis Felipe Flores, 21, identified as the man who was driving the vehicle when it hit McNeely. Flores was along with another man who was a passenger in the Hilux at the time of the accident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that McNeely was riding his bicycle on the road when he was hit from behind by the Hilux and flung off the road into the bushes on the side.

Police are investigating to determine whether McNeely was on the side of the road when he was hit, and we are told they have also taken a blood alcohol content sample from Flores.
